As a technical editor at our 80-person consulting firm, you will have the opportunity to apply your excellent editing and document management skills to produce engaging technical content in a professional environment. Join our team of editors and collaborate with our content experts on topics such as air quality science, fire science, and data analysis and modeling tools to produce reports, proposals, presentations, fact sheets, web content, posters, and more. The ideal candidate has an excellent command of English grammar and spelling, has a sharp eye for detail, is an expert user of Microsoft Word, and enjoys working on a collaborative and fun team. Work can be performed remotely or in our Petaluma, CA, office.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit complex technical documents for clarity, consistency, organization, and grammatical correctness
• Format documents in accordance with our corporate (or other) style guide
• Work closely with authors, technical reviewers, editors, and other staff to meet deadlines, ensure quality, and meet client needs
• Train and advise technical staff on grammar and technical writing, the company style guide, and use of templates and other tools
• Manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced team environment with shifting priorities
• Perform administrative duties related to document management and archival
• Write and/or edit supportive documents needed for proposals including capability statements, past performance references, staff resumes, and background information on the relevant subject areas
• May create and/or modify graphics for inclusion in documents, journal papers, and PowerPoint presentations, and assist with layout of fact sheets and technical posters
• Assist with business development and marketing activities, including reviewing social media posts, as needed

Qualifications

• Technical editing experience including, but not limited to, scientific, software, or engineering topics
• Degree in English, Communications, or a related field
• Impeccable spelling and punctuation skills
• Robust knowledge of grammar and composition; ability to analyze sentence structure and suggest improvements
• High level of accuracy, efficiency, attention to detail, and organization
• Advanced skill with Microsoft Word including formatting text, tables, figures, tables of contents, and other front matter, and using Word’s Track Changes and Comment features
• Willingness to receive feedback from multiple reviewers

Desired Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Publisher (or equivalent)
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Acrobat, Photoshop, and InDesign) for basic layout and publication design
• Graphic design experience
• Competency with bibliographic programs (such as EndNote)
• Familiarity with proposal development, including drafting, editing, assembling, and submitting
• Experience with Microsoft Teams/Sharepoint
• Basic knowledge of HTML

Salary Range: $35 to $45 an hour
